Rot und violet auf gelb

Als er 1979 erschien, war das mehr als ein technischer Fortschritt. Es war ein Rückzug. Die Musik verließ das Wohnzimmer und fand den Weg zum Einzelnen. Hören wurde privat, mobil, unberührbar. Zum ersten Mal bewegten sich Menschen durch den öffentlichen Raum – nach innen gewandt. In Japan nannte man sie kieta hito – die Verschwundenen (消えた人). Noch da, aber zurückgezogen. Eine Form der Abwesenheit, die einst auffiel.
Heute ist sie der Normalzustand. Blick aufs Handy, Ohren verschlossen.

The first Walkman. (Sony Walkman –TPS-L2)
A small device and a quiet rupture.
When it arrived in 1979, it marked more than a technical shift. It offered retreat. Music left the living room and entered the individual. Listening became private, mobile, untouchable. For the first time, people moved through public space while tuned inward. In Japan, they were called kieta hito – the disappeared ( 消えた人). Still present, but withdrawn. A disconnection that once seemed unusual.
Today, it’s the norm. Eyes on phones, ears closed.
